I recently read two articles highlighting some efforts to enhance young people to sign-up for the Insurance via the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. ObamaCare). The articles highlighted two ads coming out of Colorado and trying to link insurance to a cool statement. I guess I don’t disagree with the effort to entice young people to sign-up, however I am not sure this is the right message. Take a look at the two links for yourself before you read further.
Does anyone else remember Rush Limbaugh (commentary below) getting destroyed in the media for linking Sandra Fluke as a ‘slut’ for testifying in front of Congress about how she deserves free birth control. Rush then went on to link her to a prostitute. At that time (early 2012) most of America was in an up roar over this and were calling for his head. And just so we are clear, I hate Rush Limbaugh, but thought he was just being over the top and I did not think he needed to be fired. His job is to get ratings and a rise out of people. Anyway…
Do these ads confirm this notion? A quote from the ad “OMG, He’s hot. Let’s hope he’s as easy to get as this birth control. My health insurance covers the pill, which means all I have to worry about is getting him between the covers.” Believe I am not judgemental, or even a moralist, however this does seem a tad ‘slutty’ and over the top as well.
With all the bullshit that is going on with the ObamaCare website, my guess is that this is not what the White House wants to see as a publicity tool.
I still believe that PPACA benefits far outweigh the downfalls. Let’s give it a chance to see where this goes.
